Topping Barrels

Oak Barrels are a great way to store certain varieties of wine, such as pinot noir and chardonnay as the oak can impart interesting aromas and characteristics and let the wine age. The reason the wine ages, is because the wood of the barrel is porous and slowly lets the barrel breathe. This is great as the oxygen in the air can mature the wine, but over time some of the wine will evaporate. this means we need to keep putting more wine in and topping the barrels up.

This video will give you an insight as to how we work with and manage barrels at Spring Creek.

This video was made in-house by our cellar hands, to give an overview of how to complete the task. However, more in depth training will be provided for any new staff.

Feel free to post questions in the comments section of the youtube video, and we will answer them as quickly as we can.
